The Band

In January of 2005  Shokazoba: The Afrobeat Battalion was born. We are a collective of musicians who’ve come together to write and perform our Afrobeat style music. Afrobeat, pioneered by the Nigerian anti-colonialist Fela Kuti, has been the main influence of our project but we’re merging in many other styles to create our own unique sound. It’s extremely funky qualities and  layered poly-rhythms make Afrobeat our desired focus of our music. The ensemble is made up of a very special group of local musicians including past and present members of OJ Okemodo, Babatunde Olatunji, the Inner Orchestra, The 5th Pocket, the Black Rebels, the Primate Fiasco, World Beat Ensemble,  etc. .

We are dedicated to bringing a message of peace, hope and awareness to the masses through playing our Afrobeat funk.
